Ten Year Plan
The Federal mandate is for the nation's communities to work and implement a
ten year plan to eliminate homelessness. To this end the S.C. Homeless
Coalition has written a state plan that has been distributed to the various
communities to adapt to their own needs.
In Greenville the plan is well underway. March 15, 2005 over 100 members of
the community gathered to learn about this undertaking. Those able and
interested joined at least one of five task forces to work on particular
aspects of the skeletal plan handed down from the state. The task forces
will then submit their plans to a steering committee, which will then
integrate the plans into one. The revised plan will be unveiled to the
community in the beginning of September.
Parties interested in implementing the plan will begin their work. This
will take a lot of effort to bring various resources together, develop
discharge plans from hospitals and prisons to alleviate the problem of
people being released into homelessness, build affordable housing, and
identify new resources. Prevention of homelessness will also be a key
component.
