Programs - Helping Homeless People
US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD):
If you are homeless or may become homeless in the near future then you may
qualify for one of our programs.
In order to be eligible for consideration in the Upstate Homeless Coalition's
programs, a person must meet one of HUD's definitions of homelessness, which
are as follows:
- Staying in a shelter
- Living on the street i.e., woods, car, abandoned building
- In the last five days of a Writ of Ejectment (eviction papers)
Also, those entering TRANSITIONS 2000 must be free of alcohol and drugs for
at least 90 days. Everyone must meet low income guidelines. And, they must
be willing and able to work towards self-sufficiency.
Target Population:
The
TRANSITIONS 2000 Program
targets person/families who are dually diagnosed, suffer from substance abuse,
or are chronically mentally ill. Other homeless populations will
be served on a space available basis.
The
HOME/SHELTER PLUS CARE Programs
provide permanent housing for people with mental illness.
