Volunteer with the Upstate Homeless Coalition!

The Upstate Homeless Coalition (UHC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to identifying the needs of homeless people and to finding solutions to homelessness in the Upstate through programming, housing, and advocacy. Every year, the UHC provides housing and case management for hundreds of homeless individuals and families, yet even with our hard work at the UHC, there is always more to do.

We need community members and groups to help us in the fight against homelessness. In 2007, there were 7,192 homeless adults and children in the Upstate (that we know about). Too many people cannot find safe, affordable housing in the Upstate. The UHC is working diligently to change that fact, and you can help us by volunteering to:

  • Host a picnic or event for our residents Upstate Homeless Coalition
  • Provide one or more informational programs for our residents (cooking demonstrations, budget workshops, yoga relaxation classes, etc. in Anderson, Gaffney, Spartanburg, or Greenville)
  • Invite UHC staff to speak at one of your group's meetings and learn about advocacy opportunities in the Upstate
  • Help with newsletter mailings
  • Sponsor adults and children for Christmas ($50 suggested donation per sponsored resident)
  • Share a special skill or talent (you tell us what you'd like to do)

Please download the UHCSC brochure in PDF (248K) format for an overview of what we do.

  • Yard beautification, which could include aerating, seeding, working on flower beds, working on drainage issues.
  • There is need periodically for painting.
  • It would be helpful to have some plumbers, HVAC workers, electricians that we could call when a problem arises.

To volunteer for these type of activities call Heath Lane at 770-0711 or Don Young at 770-0712.
