Our Volunteer Opportunities
Reedy Place
This is permanent housing for 15 chronically homeless people with
special needs. The building has 15 one-bedroom apartments. The Upstate Homeless
Coalition is the facility manager and the Greenville Mental Health Center
provides the case management. It is located on Calhoun Street. The back of
the building is directly across Academy Street from Project Host. The tenants
meet every Tuesday evening and talk about things that they would like to do.
We are now looking for volunteers to:
- Take tenants on a hike—there is a walking trails a block from the facility.
- Teach yoga, crafts, games.
- Provide a cook out.
- Take some of the tenants to the movies.
- Provide cooking lessons using microwave and crock-pots.
- Provide dinner on the 3rd Tuesday of the month for the tenant meeting.
This does not have to be fancy.
To volunteer for any of the above call: Venus Dixon at 467-1820.
Judson Properties
These are housing units, mostly in the Judson community that the Upstate
Homeless Coalition owns but lends out to other homeless service providers for their
homeless program participants. These units are used for transitional and permanent housing.
There are needs for people to help with:
- Yard beautification, which could include aerating, seeding, working on
flower beds, working on drainage issues.
- There is need periodically for painting.
- It would be helpful to have some plumbers, HVAC workers, electricians
that we could call when a problem arises.
To volunteer for these type of activities call
Heath Lane at 770-0711 or
Don Young at 770-0712.
