The Upstate Homeless Coalition receives $2,500 to support homeless
children activities in the Upstate.
Upstate, SC - The Upstate Homeless
Coalition has received $2,500 from Ronald McDonald House of Greenville
and Ronald McDonald House Charities. The money will be used to pay for
extracurricular activities for children in the UHC transitional housing
program. There are currently 40 children in the TRANSITIONS 2000 program.
It is not uncommon for the Upstate Homeless Coalition to have up to 100
children during a course of a year. The types of activities the money
will pay for includes dance lessons, cheerleading, band, school clubs,
and camps.
The mission of the Ronald McDonald House Charities is to find, create,
and support programs aimed at improving the health and wellness of children.
The Upstate Homeless Coalition of South Carolina operates TRANSITIONS 2000,
a transitional housing program, in six upstate counties. The program provides
housing, intensive case management, and other supportive services to help
participants work towards self-sufficiency. Program participants may remain
in transitional housing up to two years, so long as progress towards their
goals is being made. TRANSITIONS 2000 offers homeless individuals and families
the opportunity to get back on their feet. The key to success is an intensive
case management approach, which emphasizes daily contact, weekly meetings,
and resident accountability.
The Upstate Homeless Coalition is a non-profit organization dedicated to
identifying the needs of homeless people and to finding solutions to
homelessness in the Upstate through programming, housing, and advocacy. The
Upstate Homeless Coalition is the planning coordination organization for
homeless programs in all 13 counties in the Upstate. The organization provides
services for the homeless in 7 of those counties: Anderson, Cherokee,
Greenville, Laurens, Oconee, Spartanburg, and Union.
