The Upstate Homeless Coalition of South Carolina hosts Open House
Celebration and Dedication for their newest housing development,
New Prospects.
What: The Upstate Homeless
Coalition proudly presents New Prospects, a newly constructed
apartment complex in Anderson, SC. This complex, comprised of 12
units, was built to offer a housing solution to homeless individuals
with disabilities. Through joint efforts with the US Department
of Housing and Urban Development, the SC Department of Mental
Health, and concerned citizens of the Upstate community, New
Prospects represents just one of the many recent solutions UHC has
organized to alleviate the plague of homelessness in the Upstate.
Raby Construction was the building contractor for the project.
UHC will host an Open House, with light refreshments and a tour of
the complex, to demonstrate the organization's and Upstate
communities' commitment to helping build new lives for those faced
with homelessness. Lakeside Wesleyan Church will be welcoming new
tenants with gift baskets on the day of the Open House.
When: Monday, April 25th, 2005. 11:30 am-1:00 pm.
Where: 112 Genesis Circle, Anderson,
SC. From I-85, take exit 27/Hwy 81. Follow to Murray Avenue, and
turn left. Turn right on Whitner Street/Hwy 24. Follow 24 to New
Prospects Church Road, and turn right (Bull Mart is on corner.)
The New Prospects complex will be on the left.
Who: HUD officials, SC Dept. of
Mental Health representatives, members of Lakeside Wesleyan Church,
officials of the Upstate Homeless Coalition and the board of
directors for New Prospects.
Why: New Prospects represents the
positive side of fighting homelessness. The Upstate Homeless
Coalition's goal is to encourage awareness about the realities of
homelessness, develop programs to rebuild lives damaged by
homelessness, and build safe, affordable housing options for those
making a new start. Media members will have the opportunity to
educate and update their viewers, readers, and listeners on the
scope of this problem in our area and what is being done to
eliminate it.
